As a Bachelor of Fashion Design student at RMIT, I was given an opportunity to collaborate with ACMI to produce a fashion film and accompanying merchandise collection, celebrating Strong Women in Film. I focused on Jane Champion, as an influential female director, and her 1993 film, The Piano. I found inspiration in the film’s connection to water and its ability to represent both a woman’s agency and her suppression. Water’s meaning is as fluid and transient as its form, and I wanted to emulate this movement within my collection.
